Clam Alley Pottery
In a rather smallish one car garage with a ridgeboard just beginning to sag, Paul Olson makes things out of clay. There is no video screen, he rarely answers the phone and doesn't check email, he makes things with clay. Clam digging equipment hangs from the rafters along with wire baskets, an eel trap and a galvanized double-walled bait bucket. An extra large bull rake, hand made in years past hangs from the rafters. Paul Olson's interest in ceramics grew out of his love of plants and bonsai, which he has cultivated since the untimely demise of his first potted juniper in 1989. After spending years acquiring ugly trees from the bargain bin, or various front yards, there came a need for pots. In 2006 Paul bought a second hand kick wheel and kiln and began experimenting with forming shapes in clay.

At Clam Alley Pottery every attempt is made to conserve, recycle and re-use. All the pottery equipment was purchased second hand, the windows and doors of the pottery were "recovered" from the curbside on trash day.

Paul is an Illustrator and Painter, and currently teaches in the Illustration Departments at Rhode Island School of Design and Massachusetts College of Art.
